Zenit St. Petersburg will be without central defender Roman Shirokov and striker Fatih Tekke when they face Juventus in UEFA Champions league on Wednesday. Shirokov suffered a calf injury during his team's 4-1 win at Terek Grozny last weekend and will miss the game against Juventus and possibly the league match against CSKA Moskva next Sunday. Meanwhile, Turkey forward Fatih Tekke is recovering from a thigh problem.
Spartak Moscow have appointed Michael Laudrup as their new coach. The former Danish international replaces Stanislav Cherchesov, who left the Russian club after their 4-1 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round home first-leg loss to Dynamo Kyiv. Laudrup, 44, quit Spanish side Getafe in May after just one year in charge, having helped the club avoid relegation while also taking them to the UEFA Cup quarter-finals and the King's Cup final. He has signed an 18-month contract with Spartak.
Rubin Kazan have secured the services of defender Aleksei Popov from Amkar Perm. The 30-year-old Amkar captain holds a club record, having played in 372 Russian league games for the club since 1996, scoring nine times. Meanwhile, Lokomotiv Moscow have bought a 70 per cent share of defensive midfielder Charles' registration from Brazilian side Cruzeiro. The 23-year-old has scored six goals in 47 league games for Cruzeiro.
